He was very surprised that a significant number of staff did not reach the level of IT literacy required in their jobs. He has asked you to source a training provider who is able to provide the necessary training for his IT staff. You have done all the research and costings, now can you work out the best deal ?

2. The Loss Making Acquisition

You work in the Finance Department of an up-market supermarket company. You have a number of regional stores in large cities across the UK and Europe. You are the largest specialty foods retailer in Europe and have a very loyal clientele. You are reviewing the end of year financial statements for each of your 6 stores. A division of your company in Oxford is making a loss. Can you rescue the situation ? Your options include closing down the store, downsizing the business, and centralizing management functions?

3. Producing the Marketing Plan

You work for an Internet Book Shop with an annual turnover of £3.6 Million per year and have been asked to review the current marketing plan and to make recommendations for a Marketing Strategy Meeting. You have your objectives, your resources, your time scale. Can you work out the details of the marketing plan ?

4. Organising the Client Conference

The company you work for provides printing services to industry. You have been placed in charge of organising a conference for your clients. The conference is to be held at a prestigious local hotel. Can you work out how to deliver a conference on time and make a profit ?

5. Losing the Big Account

The company you work for makes bulk copies of music and software CD and DVD discs. Your biggest customer is threatening to take their business, what is in the contract that you can use to save the situation ?

SOLUTIONS ADVANCED (MANAGERIAL) is not a development of the original SOLUTIONS software, or a newer version of it - it is an entirely different test. The two are designed to compliment each other.

Question : What is the difference between SOLUTIONS and SOLUTIONS ADVANCED ? Which one should I choose ?

SOLUTIONS assesses your underlying abilities, the test items are relatively short and focus on specific numerical, verbal and abstract problem solving abilities, each measured in it's own separate test.

SOLUTIONS ADVANCED (MANAGERIAL) on the other hand assesses your ability to combine numerical, verbal and abstract problem solving abilities and apply those skills to realistic business scenarios. SOLUTIONS ADVANCED is a very difficult test and is deliberately designed to stretch you. In reality the tests you are likely to face will not be as difficult, nor as long. It's sole function is to give you experience of dealing with this type of test, so do not feel worried if you have not performed as well as you would have liked to. Very few people will ever manage to answer all of the questions correctly.

We would recommend choosing SOLUTIONS if any of the following apply :

* You have been told to expect tests assessing specific abilities.
* You are applying for a reasonably low level position which does not require an ability to deal with business scenarios.
* You are applying for a higher level position, but perhaps it is your first job as a graduate, or your first managerial position and you are not expected at this stage to be able to deal with business scenarios.

We would recommend choosing SOLUTIONS ADVANCED (MANAGERIAL) if :

* You have been told to expect tests/exercises assessing business knowledge/skills.
* You have been told to expect case study or business exercise/simulation, perhaps with a presentation element.
* You are applying for a higher level, perhaps managerial position which requires an ability to deal with business scenarios.
* You are applying for a higher level position, and you are expected to be able to deal with business scenarios.

In many cases you may have deal with both types of test. It is common for instance to be given a specific numerical or verbal ability test, plus a study or business exercise/simulation. Especially in more senior or managerial appointments we would recommend both SOLUTIONS and SOLUTIONS ADVANCED (MANAGERIAL) to ensure you are fully prepared.
